Theory into Practice Assignment
Prepare and present a powerpoint sharing a lesson or a learning segment you have taught in the past. This presentation should include the following elements:
The idea of the assignment is to really look closely at how your design of a lesson and thought process connect with your actual classroom practice and implementation. And its also a chance for you to familiarize yourself with the edTPA rubrics. Often folks have trouble with Rubric 2 which is on pg. 14 in the attached edTPA handbook; and with Rubric 5, which is on pg. 17.
Rubric 2 is focused on how you plan to design an assessment that really connects to the content of the lesson and to your student's knowledge/experiences. And Rubric 5 is focused on how you'll actually do this - using different kinds of formative and summative assessments. So in your presentation it'd be great if you could show us a few examples of assessments you would or have used with your example lesson. Assessments that would be completed by all of your students in a K-12 classroom, not our class. But you can always provide us with a handout and we can work through it with you.
- Example artworks from students and/or example artworks that inspired or connect to the lesson or learning segment.
- An assessment from your lesson or learning segment you will use to evaluate your students’ developing knowledge and skills. It should be an assessment to be completed by the entire class. The assessment should provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their ability to create or respond to visual arts concepts incorporating, form and structure, production, art context, and personal perspective.
- A defined evaluation criteria you will use to analyze student learning (specific standards/objectives). The edTPa Planning Rubrics 2 and 5 will be used for self-evaluation and instructor evaluation.
